News and Stuff

The Mighty Crows pass probation at Sam's
We've been playing the "every 5th Tuesday" at Sam's BBQ in San Jose for just short of one year. That works out to about four shows a year because, let's face it, there just isn't a fifth Tuesday in every month! Well there is a fourth Wednesday every month and that's where you'll find the Crows starting in July. A little bit of math is all it takes to figure out that you can see us 12 times a year at this particular location. BBQ, cold beers, the Crows...good times.

After dinner, the Mighty Crows took the stage and we were back in business. The Mighty Crows showed why their popularity just keeps growing in California. Their harmonies are tight, their stage manner friendly and witty and their song selection is superb. Two things jump out at you: their strong, confident trio harmony singing and the visual aspect as they work their vintage single mic onstage. Chris Smith’s lead vocals are strong, and his pitch and phrasing are right on the money. Onstage, they are engaging and witty, as evidenced by mandolinist Ken Torke’s request for the activation of the mirrored disco ball (his request was granted directly). [Note: they did not honor the request for fog.]

Did you miss something? Do you have another half hour to go before work ends for the week? We'll start putting that in The Lost Archives.

The Mighty Crows is a Bay Area bluegrass band with a style and repertoire that borrows heavily from the traditional sounds of The Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Vern Williams, Red Allen and Jimmy Martin. If you like the old time bluegrass we'll get along just fine. Butch Waller from High Country says "It doesn't get any more straight ahead than that; you all are 'bluegrass boys' for sure."

Want to decide for yourself? We would love to have you come join us some time or you can just listen to some tunes from our demo or some video clips from a taping we did for a local cable show.

The Mighty Crows are available for BBQs, corporate events, weddings, or just about any other event that needs some music. Get yourself to the contact us page and let us know what we can do for you.

The Band includes Chris Smith on guitar, Jeff Zieba on banjo, Ken Torke on mandolin and Mark Wardenburg on fiddle and Dave Walker on bass. Most of the singing is built around the trio sound of Chris, Jeff, and Mark but everybody sings and everybody has fun. We've played at the Freight and Salvage, RBA, Plymouth, GOF, Wolf Mountain, the Riptide, on local cable, radio and more.
